The Syrian Civil War which already entered its seventh year had from its outbreak fatal consequences for civilians that continued throughout the whole conflict. Civilians suffered tremendously due to the warfare and had to endure multiple crisis. They have been displaced, suffered from aerial bombardments, chemical weapons, terror attacks and sieges. All of these continued relentlessly, while the international community couldn’t find means to stop them.

To understand these developments is the aim of this report. It portrays the difficulties civilians encountered during the Syrian Civil War in 2017 and gives thereby an overview over the main breaches of international and humanitarian law that occurred in this period. It is meant to help the international and political actors in understanding the detrimental effects of the war on the life of civilians and to offer approaches on how to respond more impactfully to them, while it depicts the scope and extent of violations of international law as well.

The report can be found under Civilians in the Syrian Civil War.
